18 years before George Lucas' AT-AT walkers debuted on the big
screen, #GE #engineers were working on a machine that looked strikingly similar. In the 1960s, through a contract with the U.S. Army, GE developed the Cybernetic Anthropomorphous Machine, or Walking Truck. The lumbering machine was maneuvered with hand and foot controls. Unfortunately, these controls fatigued operators and were impractical for prolonged use on the battlefield, so the project was discontinued.
