Today's #hobonichi entry is dedicated to my son, @claireholgate for being a #worldchanger and bringing this cause to my attention, and to @トムズシューズ @tomsuk for yesterday's #onedaywithoutshoes in which this amazing company @トムズシューズ @tomsuk would donate a pair of shoes to a child in need for every barefooted photo posted and hashtagged #withoutshoes. My son wanted to know "why ma-mom is acting stwange with her feet" so I told him about children who have no shoes, what this wonderful company was doing and how we could have the blessing to be a part of it (in little kid talk, which on a sidenote might be a brilliant way to convey ideas CLEARLY amongst adults but anyway...). He asked me many questions and wanted to know how many children have no shoes and this really distressed him, "If they have no shoes, they can't play outside or have fun in a playground! We need to fly in the airplane and bring many shoes!" He then went outside on the cold wet ground and wanted me to take many pictures of his feet so many children can get shoes. I was undone. There is nothing more miraculous and no greater teacher than that of the heart of a child. Children give the world hope and are the catalyst of its healing. There should be no child #withoutshoes if we can help it (and we can) and I'm so thankful for people who build together like the folks at @トムズシューズ @tomsuk who not only change the world but inspire others to as well.
