They use the soft sands of the delta to polish their tusks until they gleam. Countless numbers of elephants are killed each year for the ivory trade. The senseless slaughter will lead to the extinction of wild elephant population throughout Africa unless we act now. I can not fathom a world without this highly intelligent, social animal that has the measurable capacity for joy and sorrow and the ability to grieve much like we do.
