I think one of my favorite parts about being back on the coast is getting to be around the southern sea otters again. These are quite possibly the cutest animals on the planet. Besides having the thickest fur of almost any species, with over one million pieces of fur per square inch, they are vital to the survival of the kelp forest. By eating sea urchins, who eat kelp, the otters help keep the kelp forest green and growing! Here's your cute fact of the day: sea otters will wrap themselves in kelp and hold hands with one another to keep themselves from floating out to sea!
