An American beaver stands on top of his dam, which is his greatest life accomplishment, during a clear evening in the Tetons. Beavers are commonly referred to as ecosystem engineers as they are constantly creating new environments, such as wetlands. By building a dam, beavers can flood a water current and force the water to overtake much of the surrounding forest, giving the beavers more room to swim and collect food. Ponds and wetlands serve valuable purposes in the wild and give animals such as moose an important space to forage and cool down. Believe it or not, more people that come to Grand Teton and Yellowstone see a grizzly bear than a beaver!
