Bears have been the word in Grand Teton National Park lately as they are being seen left and right. This grizzly family in particular, 610 and her two cubs, have been out and about looking for food. Although people have enjoyed seeing her, some haven't enjoyed the circumstances as she's been actively hunting elk calves that are only hours old. It's a brutal reality of nature, but one that's been occurring long before we arrived. The elk calf hunt will continue for at least another month as the grizzly bears look for an easy source of protein in the early months of summer. The elk calves are very vulnerable as the mothers leave them alone and they remain motionless in the willows. But, a bear's nose is too great and eventually their hiding spots are revealed, leading to an easy meal.
