Why are owls wise? Is it there intense gaze, or maybe their silence? Whatever the case, the glaring yellow eyes of a great grey owl are mesmerizing. These owls use their superb eyesight and hearing to hunt their prey scurrying under the grass and brush. Their ears are asymmetrical and with the feathers that form a radar-dish on their face, they can hear even the lightest sound. With these super senses, they have a hunting success rate of over 85%, which is better than almost every other bird on the planet. I got to watch this owl from a close distance today and yesterday and I can never pull myself away, even in the freezing rain that drenched my camera and clothes.
