"In 1968, @Rolling Stone sent me and writer Jerry Hopkins to photograph and write about #FrankZappa for the cover story that ran in Issue No. 14. Frank and his family were living in a large rented log cabin that had once been owned by cowboy actor Tom Mix; it was located on the corner of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Lookout Mountain Drive in Los Angeles, and may still be there. Behind the log cabin were some natural caves in which a playful Frank repeatedly hid only to reappear a few seconds later; one of those particular shots was on the cover of Issue 14. On the hill above the cabin was a collection of rusting road-grading equipment left behind by land developers. For Zappa, these machines existed as art, as photo ops. He climbed upon a big D-7 bulldozer and pretended to drive it — another iconic image from that day’s shoot — and then started posing around an exotic 'sheepsfoot roller.' Suddenly he looked down and discovered an old frozen Ideal Orange Juice container, for Frank a 'found' work of art which he displayed to me with great pride." As told to @Rolling Stone by photographer @baronwolman
