Today @jimwmorrison @adrianballinger and I walked over 10 miles and up 4500ft to Makalu Basecamp at 16,000ft while the others took a rest day to acclimatize. It was yet again a walk full of spectacular beauty and varied terrain. We picked our way through dense mossy forest, muddy and slick with wet rhododendron branches, along a raging silty river between towering granite walls running with waterfalls, through boulder fields of dry grass and grazing yaks, and finally up a rocky moraine to the base of the 5th tallest peak in the world. She even allowed us a peak at her southwest face as the clouds broke this afternoon. We are extremely happy to be here, to rest and acclimatize, and dry ourselves out for the next few days. @alpenglowexpeditions @ザ・ノースフェイス @outsidemagazine #SkiMakalu2015 #ComeVisitNepal
