There are hundreds of bars in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where everyone thinks of themselves as a “Yooper” (U.P.ers, get it?). Inspired by the book “Yooper Bars,” a self-published guide to the drinking establishments of the #UpperPeninsula, a @nytimestravel writer sought to visit some of the best. While the book's authors didn’t make it to all of the bars in the U.P., they came awfully close. It took them the better part of a year to go from the easternmost bar (Chuck’s Place on Drummond Island, pictured here) to the westernmost, 364 miles away.
