Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | It was about 10 pm. A close friend and I were finishing a long day of photographing underground. Both of us were watching the digital black-and-white monitor attached to my tripod as I snapped the shutter. We were simultaneously startled... this image took our breath away. It felt like the woman whose countenance this bust memorialized was peering at us across a century. Her image had been cloaked in darkness for nearly a hundred years.
