This small irrigation canal between Niland and Calipatria looks heaven-sent as lit by the desert dawn - symbolic of its role as a lifeline to the Imperial Valley’s billon dollar agricultural business. Controlled irrigation is crucial to farmers. These canals take the Colorado River water to the farms of the Imperial Valley, where it's used in the fields before run-offs are channeled to the Salton Sea.
