Photo by @daviddoubilet The Lady in Red with stingrays. US Champion freediver Mehgan Heaney-Grier relaxes on the sandbar with the southern stingrays of North Sound Grand Cayman Island . This #Cayman destination called #StingrayCity and The #Sandbar is visited by thousands of cruise ship tourists a day who come to meet these gentle stingrays and maybe offer them a bit of squid. I began photographing North Sound for an @ナショナルジオグラフィック assignment when there were 7 #stingrays that showed up for fisherman's scraps and each of them had a name. Now 300 + rays arrive each sunrise. Over time as more people swam with the rays and tourists came to see them they have become protected and revered ocean ambassadors that teach people all over the world about the fragile sea.
