“We left Aleppo this morning and drove south to Ithriyah, a desolate crossroads on the edge of Islamic State territory,” @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reporter @declanjwalsh wrote yesterday. Ithriyah is about 80 miles west of Raqqa, the de facto capital of ISIS. “The local Syrian army commander showed me this gleaming stash of ammunition, captured from a militant smuggler along with 3.5 tons of fertilizer to be used for explosives. He showed me a video of the smuggler, his leg badly wounded, taken in the moments after his capture. His crippled truck was parked outside. The prisoner was with the Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, the commander said, and he was selling the weapons to Islamic State. The 2 groups, ostensibly rivals, are working together, he added — Nusra has the weapons and ISIS has the dollars to pay for them.” Follow @declanjwalsh to see more photos and visit the link in our profile to read his latest article from Aleppo. #regram
