Straight-up buttermilk #pancakes are as good as gold, but sometimes you want a little extra flavor. Because not everything belongs inside a pancake, though, toppings are an important part of a balanced pancake breakfast. Melted butter and maple syrup are the classics, followed by a dollop of good jam or preserves.
