There's always that long pause and avoidance of eye contact when I pull up at the checkout with all of my fruit and vegetables and the family in front of me have burger and chips, fizzy drinks and biscuits. Inside I ache for them because I'd love to give them some valuable health and nutritional advice to change their life and steer them away from a future of poor health, high cholesterol and diabetes but I know it's not my place to push my lifestyle and education onto others. So instead I stand in the queue quietly as they side glance me and look at me like an alien, a tall, strong and slender vegan that could somehow threaten their existence or make them feel less of a person if either of us were to speak so I smile politely and mind my own business. And whilst they struggle to cart their bulging trolley of food to the carpark I leave in half the time with my fresh weekly food shop tucked neatly into two recycled bags and pray the world will one day be different. I've lost loved ones because of disease and poor diet, they could've had 8-10yrs longer, stronger and more mobile on this beautiful earth with us all if only they understood the effects of the food they eat. I'll wait patiently for the world to be ready for me and keep on carrying on.
