Juvenile Indochinese slvered langurs at the Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCB) (@accb_cambodia) in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This center saves injured and orphaned wildlife, and releases them back into the wild once they're able to survive on their own.
These two babies, named “Soa” and “Sokmean”, were individually rescued from the pet trade in Cambodia when they were just a few weeks old. Although young primates are extremely cute, they don’t make good pets.
After arriving at the ACCB, they've been slowly introduced to their natural diet. They've also learned social behavior by interacting with two older, hand-reared “foster langurs” who are helping to raise the little ones.
Indochinese silvered langurs are born with bright orange fur, which after a few months slowly changes into a dark grey/silver color. These bright orange babies are in high demand on the pet market. For poachers to get hold of the neonates they need to kill the mothers. This demand by the pet trade, combined with the loss of their forest habitat, are the main reasons their population in the wild is rapidly decreasing.
