A pair of Matt Hall’s dogs prepared to leave the Dawson City checkpoint during the Yukon Quest, a 1,000-mile dogsled race between Whitehorse, the capital city of Canada’s #Yukon territory, and Fairbanks, Alaska. @ashadamsphoto traveled to Dawson to photograph sled dogs — which @officialyukonquest calls “elite, marathon athletes” — and their mushers, who are required to take a 36-hour break in this town that’s home to about 1,300 residents. Out on the trail, things are much are even quieter. “You don’t see any people out there,” the former Yukon Quest champion Allen Moore told @ashadamsphoto. “It looks just the way it did 100 years ago or 1,000 years ago. That’s what I like about it.” This year, Matt and his dogs were the @officialyukonquest victors.
