Isabel Rose, the heiress to one of New York’s best-known real estate dynasties, has always had an ability to make her publicity-wary family squirm. In 2005 she published a novel, “The J.A.P. Chronicles,” in which she took aim at the charter-plane-flying world. The 48-year-old is also a fixture on NYC’s cabaret scene. Recently, though, she’s been in the news for something with larger stakes: the gender transition of her 8-year-old, Sadie. Shortly after President Trump signed an executive order that rolled back federal protections for #transgender students, Isabel wrote an open letter to @イヴァンカ・トランプ, asking her to take a stand on behalf of parents. She wrote about her own child’s transition: At 2, Sadie (then Samuel) refused to smile for photos with his sister. “I’m a girl, Mommy,” he said while getting dressed for a relative’s bar mitzvah. “I want to burn my face off,” he said a couple of years later, while crying in front a mirror. Sadie is now a 2nd-grader who loves science and hates history. And she wanted to appear in a photos by @sashafoto — including this portrait with her mom. Visit the link in our profile to read more.
