Emperor penguins, weighing approximately 70 pounds hurl themselves out of the Ross Sea and onto the sea ice. From here, they will waddle, slide and travel another ten miles to where their hungry chicks impatiently wait for them. These literally are the toughest birds in the world who have evolved to withstand the most extreme conditions on the planet. The one thing they do not have an answer for is climate change. A changing polar climate affects sea ice, ice shelves, and food production. #followme on @paulnicklen to celebrate penguins and learn more about these exceptional birds. #nature #naturelovers #penguinscanfly #tough #beautiful #picoftheday #photography
