Just in time for #EndangeredSpeciesDay, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute scientists working as part of the @AmphibianRescue project began release trials yesterday, putting Atelopus limosus frogs back to the wild in Panama.
The frogs are fitted with radio tracking devices, so scientists can monitor them. Frogs in Panama have been dramatically affected by the chytrid fungus, which has swept through their habitat.
Our scientists at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute are trying to find a cure for chytrid and to create self-sustaining assurance colonies of frogs.
