Yesterday, the justices of the U.S. #SupremeCourt sat for a group portrait to mark the arrival of their newest member, Justice Neil M. #Gorsuch, who joined the court in April. The last official “class photo” was released in 2010, when Justice Elena #Kagan joined the court. As in almost all things on the Supreme Court, seniority matters. The more junior members stand, and the newest members are on the ends, with Justice Gorsuch on the right and Justice Kagan on the left. For those on the other side of the lens, such photo shoots are rare, says our staff photographer @nytmills, who's based in Washington. “I think that was the second or my third one that I’ve done,” said @nytmills, who’s worked on staff for @ニューヨーク・タイムズ since 2002. “It’s one of those things — people pinch themselves when they get included to do this. … It’s very historic.” This year, he said, 11 press photographers took part in the photo shoot, which officially lasted 2 minutes — and not a second longer.
