Photo by @andywcoleman // Sure, Alaska has bears and whales and moose and all sorts of big mammals, but it's the sea otters that seem to warm the the hearts of visitors. These charismatic creatures were almost hunted to extinction because of their soft fur. Thankfully, they are now abundant in many areas, and we saw them often as we cruised the waters of southeast Alaska. They are also resourceful, wrapping themselves up in kelp so they don't drift away while sleeping.
