To be honest, I never idolized Bruce as a kid. I didn't have many idols growing up, mostly just mucking my way through by myself. However, in recent years I've had the chance to learn more about him and I'm a fan. While he's no longer with us person, Bruce Lee is survived by his art, his philosophy, his family and entire generations of people who saw his path and listened to him speak and in turn found their own ways of expression. His philosophy of water runs through the veins of so many after him and when I heard it, it fueled a desire in me to be unique, malleable, ever changing and always thirsty. I wish that he had to chance to live out what he symbolizes: a truly worthy individual fighting against racial stereotypes and biases with the sheer force of undeniable charisma and will. I want to take heed from his message. Be like water, while seeming the same on the surface, but looking closer, each droplet is unique and interesting. Those who make it their calling to produce films should also take heed. While there are billions of Asians out there, we're not the stereotype you imagine. We are individuals. Some strong, some sensitive, some smart and some utterly foolish. Each of us is different, each with a deep story waiting to be told.
