In June, Dutch photographer Pie Aerts (@pie_aerts) flew a drone over Fjaðrárgljúfur, a southern Icelandic canyon that's about 1.24 miles (2 kilometers) long and can get as deep as 328 feet (100 meters). "After hiking it multiple times, I've always dreamt of seeing it from above. The fact that its [bedrock] is thought to be 2 million years old adds another dimension to the place," Aerts says. "Even though the actual canyon is relatively young at the age of 9,000 years, you can tell it has an old soul."⠀

A recent report by the European Travel Commission named Iceland as Europe’s fastest growing tourist destination. Tourism there has increased steadily, bringing in 1.8 million visitors last year.⠀
