ガラパゴス最大の島イサベラ島に到着。シエラ・ネグラ火山の噴火口は世界第2の大きさで、霧の晴れ間から見える対岸は2km先。足下に森の頭頂が見え、立っているのは切り立った火口壁の際だと気付かされ、肝を冷やしました。
午後に出かけたティントレーラスと呼ばれる岩礁には、ウミイグアナがびっしり。動作は思いの外ゆっくりで、日光浴の時にはほとんど静止しています。大型カメラで撮影するには最適の被写体かもしれません。

Arrived at Isabela, the largest islands of the Galápagos. The Sierra Negra volcano features the second largest crater in the world. From a break in the fog, you can see as far as the opposite shore, two kilometers away. By my feet I could see the top of the forest, and my blood turned to ice when I realized that I was standing at the edge of a perpendicular crater wall.
In the afternoon, we went to Last Tintoreras Islet, where the shore reefs were absolutely covered in marine iguanas. They move surprisingly slowly, keeping almost completely still while they are sunbathing. They are probably the perfect subject to be photographed using a large camera.
