When northern white lipped pythons like this one photographed at @knoxvillezoo become mature, their scales develop a beautiful iridescence and give off a colorful shimmer in the right light. These snakes are attractive and non-venomous, but are rarely kept as pets due to their short tempers and aggressive attitudes. White lipped pythons kill their prey through constriction, and often cough up hairballs a few days after consuming a furry animal. They can be found slithering along the forest floors of New Guinea and are sometimes even seen climbing up trees.
