This is Biscuit, a Grevy’s zebra photographed in 2012 at Wildlife Safari Park in Ashland Nebraska, a part of @theomahazoo. Her species is the largest of all zebras, reaching between 770 and 990 pounds. They live up to 20 years and can run up to 40 miles per hour. Newborn Grevy’s zebras can stand just six minutes after being born. Within 45 minutes they can run!
These zebras are endangered in the wild and have experienced a 50 percent decline in the last three decades. Just 2,000 remain alive in Ethiopia and Kenya. @theomahazoo supports African animals like the Grevy’s zebra by supporting organizations who are working to combat habitat loss, wildlife trafficking and other pressures faced in the wild.
