The winter storm that barreled from Florida to Maine and cloaked the East Coast in snow has moved on, but frigid air — and plenty of icy, then slushy, messes — will linger for days. Seems like a good time to go #surfing, right? That’s what Dennis Fitts did earlier today at Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine, where @tspinski took this photo. Swipe left to see a photo of Dennis, 20, once he came out of the water. (A word to the wise: Do not try this at home.) In many places, temperatures aren’t expected to increase dramatically until next week. The @nws said high temperatures will “struggle to get above the single digits” in some areas through Saturday and that “many” records could be broken. Parts of #Maine could experience wind chills of minus 40, but the bitter cold was not restricted to the East Coast’s northernmost areas. Visit the link in our profile for more updates. #❄️??❄️
