One of the most radical artists of the modern era, Rodin drew inspiration from ancient Greek art. This photograph shows the artist in his studio with some of his own antiquities. Although he never visited ancient sites in Greece, he came to the Museum to marvel at the sophistication and beauty of classical art. The artist made the first of many visits here in 1881, aged 41 – previously he had studied the sculptures from books, casts and had seen originals in @ルーブル美術館 in Paris.
