Capturing New York’s Gilded Age, the piano was an integral part Cornelius Vanderbilt II’s New York mansion, formerly at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. In 1894, Vanity Fair described it as ‘a fifteen thousand dollar piano’, an astronomical amount at the time.
