After seeing numerous pics of this instafamous unicorn cone, I had to take my kids to @taiyakinyc, a teeny tiny shop in Chinatown to see if it lived up to the hype. The whole scene was pretty hilarious. Everyone was there to take photos and I think we might have been some of the few people who actually ate the damn thing. There were tripods out, DSLRs, fashion blogger teams and insta-husbands trying to capture their perfect shot. There were fallen unicorns left and right and a employee whose main job seemed to be pouring hot water on the sidewalk to wash those sad fallen unicorns away. After waiting on a fast moving line and being handed two freshly baked cones (the cones are shaped like fish but i forgot to take the paper off so you can’t really see it), I suddenly realized I had all of two seconds to get a photo before a) my ice cream cone toppled, b) my ice cream melted, c) someone yelled for me to get out of the way because I was encroaching on THEIR shot, or d) my kids started screaming because, “MOM! WE ARE HERE TO EAT ICE CREAM! NOT TAKE PHOTOS OF IT!!!!” Was it tasty? Sure. It's soft serve ice cream with rainbow sprinkles! How could it not be? But the unicorn horns, the ears and the cone were definitely not meant for eating. Still, the girls were thrilled and I got a few good pictures and a funny story to tell.
