Painted in 1932, Oskar Schlemmer’s ‘Brustbild nach links in Hell-Dunkel-Streifen’ marked the end of his professorship at the Silesian Art Academy in Breslau – one of the most productive and intense periods in his artistic career.

In the same year, Schlemmer created ‘Geländerszene’ and ‘Bauhaustreppe’, his last major work and considered a masterpiece, now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
