Photo by Pete McBride (@pedromcbride) | Fire on the Mountain: My home town area is ablaze with a wildfire now raging across 5,000 acres with little containment. Thanks to the heroics and bravery of pilots flying slurry planes and firefighters on the ground, much of this mountain community is spared for now, even though the fire continues. Tragically, some residents, including firefighters, lost their homes to this inferno that was started at a target range that many officials requested closure because of statewide fire restrictions already in place. The request was ignored. Hotter and dryer conditions throughout Colorado and the West due to a changing climate are enabling wildfires to start earlier, happen more often and last longer.
