Since January, @alphajada has been traveling the world while on assignment for @nytimestravel. Her challenge is to visit every place on our list of 52 Places to Go in 2018. Recently, she traveled to #Iceland to meet up with our other globe-trotting columnist, @staletwizzlers. He’s moving at a slower pace, and with a different challenge: For about 3 years, he has been our Frugal Traveler. Together, they hit the road for an Icelandic road trip. “Nothing I imagined … could come close to the experience of being there in person,” @alphajada writes of Iceland. “Just driving from the airport felt like landing on an alternate moon covered in moss and fog.” She captured this video of #Gullfoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, at midnight. (Yes, midnight.) Gullfoss is 1 of 3 main attractions on the “Golden Circle” tourist route, an easy day trip from Reykjavik. But for most of their trip, our travelers wanted to avoid the crowds. So they headed north through the Snaefellsnes peninsula, and then boarded a ferry (car and all) to the remote coastline of the Westfjords region.
