?“Praise the rain; it brings more rain.”” This summer, we selected 6 #poems by female poets working in the United States and asked photographers to let the words inspire them. Turn your volume up to hear Joy Harjo (@nativesax) read her poem “Praise the Rain.” When our staff photographer @fremson read the poem, she thought that it was about “gratitude and honoring our creator, whoever that may be for each of us.” 3 years ago, @fremson moved from New York City to the Pacific Northwest. She wanted to take photos that honor 3 things: @nativesax’s words, Native American culture in the #PNW and her own transition to a new chapter. “Being among old growth trees feels as sacred as any cathedral, so I revisited places in Washington State that I have been to — the Hoh Rain Forest, North Cascades National Park, Olympic National Park, and the upper Skagit Valley — and let them lead me to new parts I hadn’t seen before,” @fremson writes. “Along the way I tried to convey that while nature has power and fury and should always be respected, she can also be funny, elegant and whimsical.” Swipe left, then visit the link in our profile to see more photos inspired by #poetry. Audio recording by Hannah Martin and Colton Zenni.
