?“This drive along the road the bend the banks behind the wheel I am called Mommy. My name is Mommy on these drives the sand and brush the end of winter we pass. You in the rearview double buckled back center my love.” This summer, we selected 6 #poems by female poets working in the United States and asked photographers to let the words inspire them. Turn your volume up to hear Layli Long Soldier read her poem “Edge.” (Swipe to the 2nd photo to hear the 2nd half.) ✨The poem reminded the Maine-based photographer @cig_harvey of the everyday — “an elevated everyday,” she writes. “As if Layli Long Soldier took all my daily car rides with my daughter Scout and distilled them into 9 lines. In our cars we are our own planets. I ask questions. She says things. I search the rearview mirror for gestures and expressions.” To take these photos, @cig_harvey borrowed vintage cars and trucks from friends and used the fields at a neighbor’s farm as roads. “The images are about that sensation of ingesting the wind and time passing,” she writes.
