Modelled by Alberto Giacometti, cast by Diego, and owned by their younger brother Bruno – ‘Figurine de Londres I’ is emblematic of one of the most celebrated sibling relationships of the 20th century.

The bronze was created in plaster in 1965, while Alberto was in London preparing for his retrospective at the Tate Gallery. It was then cast by Diego in 1966, shortly after Alberto’s death, before entering Bruno's collection. He kept it until his death in 2012, at the age 104.

‘When I first saw this little figurine, I fell in love right away,’ says Hans-Peter Keller, our Impressionist and Modern Art specialist in Zurich. ‘It’s indisputably an Alberto Giacometti: you don’t even have to look for the signature.’
