‘Everyone must choose his own way, and mine will be the way of colour’ – George Leslie Hunter. Bursting with colour, Hunter’s ‘Still Life with Roses and Fruit’ was painted in the 1920s, a period which has been pinpointed as a key developmental stage in the artist’s career. In his depiction of pink roses in a simple blue vase, set against a Japonist screen with a drinking glass and lemons, Hunter explores the properties, power and potential of colour and forsakes traditional modes of perspective to create an enigmatic sense of space. The painting will be on view at the Assembly Rooms in #Edinburgh from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st October as part of a preview exhibition of our forthcoming Scottish Art sale in #London. #SothebysScottish #Edinburgh
