trans, non-binary, gnc friends. i honor you. as the parent of young children i feel acutely aware that it is too often your work on the frontline that makes space for all of us to one day live in a world without binaries, a burden unfairly shouldered, from which we all benefit. Cis-allies -- in 2016 my home state of Massachusetts passed a law to protect transgender people from discrimination in public accommodations. A fringe group called 'Keep MA Safe' is now leading a campaign to repeal the law on the upcoming 2018 ballot. Their referendum will be put to a popular vote on Nov. 6th, and will allow voters to decide whether or not our state will continue to protect trans, non binary, and GNC people in public spaces (e.g. parks, public transit, restrooms, locker rooms, etc.) Their messaging is telling people that allowing gender identity protections is dangerous to women and girls. In fact, the women and girls who are MOST at risk in public accommodations are trans women and girls. If you have the funds, @freedom4allma is raising $ for a Get Out The Vote Operation, the LINK TO DONATE is in MY BIO. Additional places to donate: @translawcenter @sylviariveralawproject @audrelordeproject @lambdalegal @translifeline What else can you do? Check on people, offer to pay a bill, pay for a safe ride home, pay for dinner. For folks in fashion - let us continue to better pay, cast, hire, and celebrate a community that has contributed so SO much, and way too often goes unrecognized. >> image by @nerdybrownkid via @culturestrike #yeson3
