Cruise ship SS Norway at the Port of Miami, Florida as seen through passenger terminal windows, June 14, 1981. Converted to a cruise ship in 1980, the vessel was launched in 1961 as the glorious transatlantic liner SS France. She was scrapped in 2008, ending the era of luxury French ocean liners. Leica M4, 28mm Elmarit, Kodachrome 64.

I took this picture in 1981 for National Geographic Magazine. The photographs that I took that year will be in HistoryMiami’s upcoming exhibition “A Peculiar Paradise: Florida Photographs. ” The exhibition’s opening reception will be 6 – 8 pm, November 8, at HistoryMiami Museum, 101 West Flagler Street, Miami.
