Anna Brezitskaya, 19, is studying to be a drummer at a #musical college in Toretsk. The #school is seven kilometers from the frontline in Ukraine, but students insist they don’t notice the shelling while rehearsing. Anna was happy to move here because it is safer than Donetsk, reports @sopova.alisa, where she once hid and watched shells hit houses just a few meters away. She suffered psychological trauma and lost vision in one eye. One of the school’s star students, she is preparing to apply to Western conservatories. Since the conflict between a new Ukrainian government and a Russian-backed separatist movement in the country’s eastern region began more than four years ago, photojournalist @anastasiatl and @sopova.alisa have covered it as a team. This summer, they worked with @eyewitnesstoatrocities to document the daily life of communities along the frontline, often just a few kilometers away from the shelling.
