Why does Maine inspire so many creepy stories? From vampires to werewolves to ghosts of sailors lost at sea - Maine has long been the go-to setting for stories both dark and disturbing. No doubt in large part due to local hero Stephen King - who finds endless ways to make this pine tree state so unsettling.

The thing is - when you’re here - and it’s dark and stormy outside and the wind is howling through the trees - it’s easy to believe that a shapeshifting beast might be lurking in the shadows... That the friendly old man at the flea market might secretly be practicing some Lovecraftian ritual in the dirt floored basement of his rural farmhouse... That there really is a faint ghostly voice on the howling wind...

Or maybe it’s just the Winter - getting to me. But I have a feeling it’s more than just the Winter...
