A few millimetres go a long way. At Nikon, we went to great lengths to reduce the flange focal distance of the new Z series. The purpose was to pave the way for a new generation of high performance cameras and lenses.

Essential mechanical components like the filters, shutter and dust protection glass all contribute to the flange focal distance, which in turn determines the thickness of the camera body.

Through numerous tests, we ensured optical precision and accuracy was taken to a new level. The thickness of each component was reduced, leading to a flange focal distance of only 16mm. Experience the highest level of optical performance – all neatly packed into a compact Z series body.
