"I went here initially to shoot star trails since the sky was going to be crystal clear and I ended up staying the whole night till sunrise. I had actually taken some pictures of this tree last year with the Milky Way but never thought about going underneath it, so decided to give that a try. I actually used two images for this one to get the perfect sun flare with a sharp foreground.
My tip for this shot is about creating a perfect sun flare. If you’ve ever paid attention to other photos with sun flares, some look soft and diffused, while some others look really bold and defined? This has everything to do with aperture. If you use a fairly wide open aperture like f/5.6-f/8 you’ll get soft, less defined flares. But, if you use a really small aperture like I did in this image at f/20, you’ll get stronger, more defined flares." @jsn_pdog
