While not technically part of the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend is an extremely popular viewpoint in northern Arizona where many tourists can get their “canyon” fix. Dropping nearly 1,000 feet down to the Colorado River, it is easily one of the more impressive sites in the Southwest. One of my favorite things in Canyon Country is when the sun sets below the horizon, most folks head home not realizing one of the best shows starts 15-20 minutes later. Under cotton candy skies, the walls of the canyon glow in deep violet, pink, and red hues, as though it’s revealing it’s true form. So remember when you visit this region next, stick around after sunset to see the canyon at its most colorful!
