Did you know there are up to 30 different subspecies of Red Fox? The Red Fox is very adaptable, living in many different environments. Sometimes these adaptations are significant enough to be declared a different subspecies. Many of these subspecies are very similar in appearance, only able to be differentiated by the trained eye. Other times they can be obvious. One example of the later is the Arabian Red Fox. This fox lives in the deserts of the Middle East. It has much larger ears than other red foxes but is only about half the size of the others. While they can no doubt hear really well with those big ears, there real purpose is to help it stay cool. They can selectively divert blood flow to their ears so they act as big radiators. We think the Arabian Red fox looks really cool, how about you?
