Right on Bourbon St. Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop somehow manages to not feel touristy. And I say this as someone who sat there drinking a hurricane out of a plastic cup.

The first time I learned about Mardi Gras was in 9th grade. We had a new teacher in English. An American who had just come to our small town to teach (in Bulgaria). He was from Louisiana. When he first came for class, he was wearing at least 30 different strings of beads around his neck and an open umbrella (I don't really remember what the umbrella was for, I think it had something to do with the weather in Louisiana). He was so colorful and intriguing that we fell in love with him right away. Mardi Gras has been on my bucket list ever since 📿

We head there at least once a year for the last 8 years or so. Only went to Mardi Gras once and didn’t like it. My favorite time to go is around December. Decent weather and less crowds. We also go to Dirty Linen Nights in August. @dirtylinennight
