Do you remember last year when Mazzy sold her drawing at an art auction for $800 to raise money for pediatric cancer research through @cookies4kids? She was asked to be part of the auction again! She actually painted a different piece to submit first, but then at the last minute, she decided she wanted to submit something else instead— her cat clock. Swipe left to see it. I love the cat clock and did not want her to part with it. We got into a little fight about it and I asked her why she wanted to sell it. She said because she thought it would raise more money for the charity than her new piece. I said that was an excellent answer but the clock was so awesome that selfishly, I wanted to keep it for myself. (For the record, this is the first time that a child of mine has actually wanted to get rid of a piece of their art work and I said no!) Then, a few days later, when Mazzy saw me put her painting by the door, so @dbznyc from Cookies could pick it up, she got upset again. She told me that she didn’t want to submit the painting because she wasn’t proud of it. That’s when I finally understood. Having your art up on the wall for a big grown-up event is a huge deal and I wanted her to be as proud and confident as last year. I told her that most artists weren’t creating something special for the auction, they were choosing a piece from their collection. “Why don’t you look through all your art work and see if there is anything else you would be proud to have up on the wall? If you can’t find anything, you can submit the clock.” She went straight over to the drawing pictured, which was in a small pile in our living room and held it up. “I want to submit this one.” The reason it was out was because I was planning to frame it to hang in our hallway. I had to agree, it is an excellent choice. If you’d like to bid on Mazzy’s piece online, or any of the other art up for auction, check out the link in my bio! I’m keeping the clock ?
