This beautiful photo by @vilmajar was taken in the Weston Hall. The space was designed by Sydney Smirke – the younger brother of Robert Smirke, who designed the main Museum building including the iconic Ionic facade.

The hall’s original colour scheme was inspired by ancient Greek buildings, which would have been brightly painted. It survived until the Second World War, when the ceiling was badly damaged during an air raid – this reproduction was completed in 1999, restoring the entrance hall’s vibrancy ✨
